“Yahoo Continues to Amaze! Even after a Four Year Breach Disclosure”

Redport Information Assurance
So recently, Yahoo was honest (not) when it disclosed last year that one (1) billion users’ email and data had been breached way back in 2013. Even-though they announced the breach in 2016. Well now forward to the future October, 2017, Yahoo now has disclosed that it was three (3) billion users’ email and data stolen. That’s “THREE (3) BILLION” accounts! The accounts include email, Tumblr, Fantasy and Flickr accounts, a whopping two (2) billion more than it initially disclosed in 2016. However, Yahoo states that the data breached did not include users’ financial information. This new disclosure only comes out in reporting after Verizon acquired yahoo’s ever revolving portfolio for $4.48 billion. Yahoo is now currently part of Verizon’s ever growing digital media portfolio company ironically named “Oath”. Verizon revised the number of breached accounts to three billion after receiving and investigating the newly acquired company. Verizon states, "The Company recently obtained new intelligence and now believes, following an investigation with the assistance of outside forensic experts, that all Yahoo user accounts were affected by the August 2013 theft”. As part of its due diligence efforts, Yahoo will send email out to these additionally affected account victims in the coming months. Redport IA LLC’s Director of Cyber Programs states that it is still crucial for Yahoo users to maintain, change and manage their yahoo passwords and accounts on a more routine basis.
